School of Health and Welfare at Jönköping University is the only institution in Sweden for educations in Prosthetics and Orthotics and provides state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and training. The program leads to a Bachelor of science, as well as the professional exam certificate to apply for a License to practice as Prosthetist/Orthotist in Sweden.

The 3-year program is provided in English for national and international students. The program starts with basic courses within the discipline of prosthetics and orthotics, rehabilitation, medicine, science, technology, and behavioural science. As the programme progresses, the emphasis on the main subject area prosthetics and orthotics increases. In final semester the students conduct a project leading to a Bachelor thesis.

The program is conducted with a focus on the student’s own responsibility for learning, applying a variety of learning activities. Teaching is evidence based, and research is an integral part of the course delivery. The academic standard is considered high. The main subject area of prosthetics and orthotics apply a client centred approach, includes clinical training with clients at the facilities at the school and clinical placement studies at P&O clinics (national and international) in collaboration with the school. The clinical training provides integration of theory and practice in different aspects of the P&O area and the professional role. Emphasis on analysis of client conditions and development of appropriate treatments, enables clinical reasoning as a strength of the program.
