BIENNIUM REPORT 2021-2023 4 1970 • ISPO is established as a non-governmental organisation in Copenhagen, Denmark. On 5 November, Knud Jansen and 9-year old polio patient Ulla Andersen, sign the official documents establishing ISPO. 1972 • The ISPO Bulletin, ISPO’s first official international newsletter is launched 1977 • ISPO assumes the editorship of the Prosthetics and Orthotics International (POI) journal • The first Knud Jenson Lecture is presented by Charles Radcliff at the second World Congress in New York, USA. 1990 • The first ISPO Consensus Conference on amputation surgery takes place in Scotland, UK. 1995 • ISPO establishes a partnership with USAID. 1974 • The first ISPO World Congress is organised in Montreux, Switzerland • The first ISPO Short Course, focusing on amputation surgery and prosthetics, takes place in Rungsted, Denmark 2007 • ISPO starts a collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). Historical Highlights ISPO was founded in 1970 in Copenhagen, Denmark as a multidisciplinary organisation with the primary objective of improving the rehabilitation of all people with physical disabilities requiring prosthetic, orthotic or other technical aid. In over half a century of existence, ISPO has celebrated a number of extraordinary achievements. Here we proudly look back over some highlights from the past five decades of innovation and excellence:
