ISPO Accredited Training Programmes

The prosthetic and orthotic engineering program of Binzhou Medical University aims to cultivate high-quality interdisciplinary outstanding engineering and technical talents who can serve the new national strategy under the new engineering background, and meet the needs of industrial innovation, especially the reform of the prosthetic and orthotic industry, face the future development of prosthetic and orthotic engineering technology, and have innovation, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary integration capabilities, serving the disabled and medical and health care.

The sprout of this program began in 1985 when our school began to enroll students with disabilities. In addition to their studies, rehabilitation treatment and assistive devices were provided, creating a precedent for higher education integrating learning, treatment, and rehabilitation. Pufang Deng, the former chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, and Haidi Zhang, the current chairman, sent letters or inscriptions five times to affirm our school’s practice.

Our country attaches great importance to the development of the prosthetic and orthotic industry, but there is an extreme shortage of talents in the industry. To make up for the huge gap in the industry’s demand for talents in this program, this program enrolled 28 people in 2016, 29 people in 2017, 27 people in 2018, and 29 people per year in 2019-2022. It is the fifth school in China and the only one in Shandong Province to have P&O programs. In 2019, it enrolled full-time postgraduates in the direction of prosthetic and orthotic engineering. It is the only university in China that offers postgraduate education for this program, and it has taken the lead in building a domestic integrated talent training system for prosthetic and orthotic engineering.

This program refers to the national education and teaching and ISPO level 1 talent training standards to build a curriculum system that integrates medical science, engineering, and a practical teaching quality evaluation system.

At present, the laboratory has nearly 3,000 square meters and equipment worth more than 20 million RMB, mainly including an evaluation room, mold-making room, grinding room, thermoforming room, assembly room, suitability inspection room, training room, etc. It is a comprehensive training center including production, service, scientific research, and education.

Professional courses mainly include ” Anatomical Physiology “, “Pathology”, “Kinematics”, “Rehabilitation Assessment”, “Clinical Rehabilitation”, “Lower-limb Prosthetics”, “Upper-limb Prosthetics”, “Lower-limb Orthotic”, “Spine Orthotics”, “Upper-limb Orthotics”, “Clinical Science of Prosthetics and Orthotics”, etc.
