The Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics in Phnom Penh provides a 3-year training program (full-time studies) for students from Cambodia as well as from other countries to be professionals in prosthetics and orthotics.
The curriculum is constructed into semesters (two semesters per year) and follows ISPO recommendations (30% of the course is theoretical while 70% is practical).
Besides Prosthetic and Orthotic subjects, our curriculum also includes other related subjects (including field visits) aiming to give the students an overall understanding of the services required, and the ability to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities. Our curriculum is also recognized by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans, Youth, and Rehabilitation.
Subjects taught throughout year 1 & 2 are:
– Arts of Humanity focusing on Human development, the arts of learning and studying, Disability Rights, and Community Awareness
– Mathematics, Science & Computer focusing on Computer literacy, Mathematics for P&O engineering
– Social Science focusing on Psychology, Principle of Management, Communication skills
– Foreign Language focusing on Introduction to P&O and P&O Technical English
– Orientation Subjects focusing on Professional Practice Approach, Workshop Theory, Material Technology, Anatomy, Physiology, Physiotherapy, Pathology, Research Methodology, Statistic, and Wheelchair Adaptation.
– Transtibial Prosthetics
– Ankle Disarticulation
– Transfemoral Prosthetics
– Hip Disarticulation Prosthetics
– Knee Disarticulation Prosthetics
– Partial Foot Prosthetics
– Foot Orthotics
– Ankle-Foot Orthotics
– Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthotics
– Hip-Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthotics
– Spinal Orthotics
In year 3, students will work at the school clinic to fit and provide prosthetics and orthotic devices to the prosthetic and orthotic device users.
